Help the Elbow Reef Lighthouse Society do what they do best!We are working directly with the custodians of the Elbow Reef Lighthouse to help facilitate funding for the restoration needs of this iconic landmark after the devastation inflicted by Hurricane Dorian in September 2019. The team have made enormous strides to restore this landmark but still need help.
Unique in all the world, this rare, 'complete' lightstation, with all its original buildings, is the only active hand-wound, kerosene burning lighthouse of its kind remaining on the planet. |
Seven damaged outbuildings at the light stationHurricane Dorian was a storm more powerful than any previously recorded in the Atlantic Ocean, with steady winds of 185 miles an hour and gusts of 220 miles an hour, Dorian hit this little island with 30ft storm surges, two feet of rain and an estimated 16 tornados.
